INTRODUCTION
The 3rd International Conference on Technology of Architecture and Structure will be held in Beijing, China in November, 2010. It is
preceded by its first ICTAS in 2006 (Xi’an, China) and second ICTAS in 2009 (Shanghai, China) successfully held. This conference will
be jointly sponsored by China Civil Engineering Society, Division of Civil, Hydraulic and Architecture Engineering of Chinese Academy
of Engineering, Department of Engineering and Materials Science of National Natural Science Foundation of China and Beijing
University of Technology.
With the increasing of population and economy, global warming has challenged the human survival and development. The environmental
problems caused by energy consuming have been better understood. The concept of low-carbon economy has gain wide attentions, which
has become the consensus of the human society. The Chinese government also has solemnly committed to put forward a clear target of
emission reduction. This poses not only a historic opportunity for civil engineering development but also a higher requirement for civil
engineering industry.
With the background of low-carbon economy, it is serious practical difficulties confronting civil engineers and scholars to promote
science and technology innovation and to achieve sustainable developments of civil engineering.
In order to promote science and technology innovation and sustainable development in the field of civil engineering, the 3rd International
Conference on Technology of Architecture and Structure will focusing on low-carbon economy and science and technology innovation in
civil engineering.
